(A conversation with pictures)

I’ve got a warehouse upstairs. In fact I’m bringing things from upstairs down here (to the gallery), from my house down here. I just took some from city hall and brought them here. From another gallery and brought them here. I’ve got pictures I didn’t know I had. I when I start going through my collection I say Wow! I haven’t seen this guy in 10 years. I pull it out. Its like when you take notes and put them away, take notes and put them away and later on you discover them when you see them again.

This (above) is from a series called “Stations of the cross.” All these are the symbol of suffering.

I call this one “Crown of Bullets”  and it was inspired by my trip to  Guatemala. They are all like little prisons. This one is more spiritual. The soul is imprisoned. There is no way out.

I call this one “The Door.” This represents the entrance to Heaven/Paradise (pointing to exposed nails). You have to go through all the suffering of this world in order to find that peace and paradise, and the promised land you have to go thru all this hell and all these things sticking out here. This is part of a larger series of man and religion. This is the male; this is the female. The reasons I did them without arms or mouths was because they are helpless people. No way to defend themselves verbally or physically. They are like slaves.

This one was mostly inspired by my experience. I went to jail I was involved in gangs in New York City. It’s ignorance. No outlet. All this time I had this in my, but I was looking for other outlets outside of me. Until I went in there (jail) that’s when I started searching for myself. I started studying all the religions and looking for some meaning in life. I know we are here for a purpose, what is the purpose? Is it to be used, to go somewhere or become somebody’s slave? There are some questions for which there aren’t always immediate answers. So I started searching and creating things that reflected my surroundings.
