Charles Cannon and the Bells of Harmony were the featured act (along with King Solomon Hicks) for the fourth of five Jazz in the City concerts. Last night’s show was the first to be held at the Byrne Dairy distribution facility.
It may have been more blues and gospel than Jazz, but the fans at the Byrne Dairy location still loved the music.
Before King Solomon Hicks hit the stage Common Council President Van Robinson was given an achievement award for his involvement to help grow Jazz in the City. In the background drummer Norman Edwards gets ready for the final set.
King Solomon Hicks, who will be in Syracuse for Jazz in the City later this week, participated in an Apollo Theater forum on Black Men and Soul Music a few months ago (along with Duke’s Mark Anthony Neal, vocalist Gordon Chambers and radio personality Gary Byrd).
