Last month British singer Katy Tiz scored a Billboard Top 100 hit; last week she performed on the Today Show; and last night she greeted fans and did an abbreviated show for Hot 107.9 FM at Destiny USA in Syracuse.
Over the Edge: Young female fans jockey for position as the boy band AJR prepared to sing in Destiny USA’s Canyon on Thursday evening.
If you were in the mall last night you couldn’t help but feel the energetic enthusiasm created by the AJR Brothers appearance and performance. The band also shared the HOT 107.9 FM stage with British pop singer Katy Tiz.
As we have stated in the past, the Canyon (which has great views from as far as 80 feet high) is becoming a great spot to see live music.
HOT 107.9 program director and on-air personality AJ interviewed the band.
Accessorize
We didn’t think DestiNY could top the musical performance we saw a few months ago, but we were wrong. Alisa Parmenter of ECG Promotions coordinated a fashion show/runway event at DestiNY USA last night that featured What You See is What You Wear, or every day fashion items (found in the mall).
The show was held in the mall’s spacious canyon area and drew a crowd that included shoppers, journalists, politicians and local executives.

Radio personality George Kilpatrick and PR consultant Alisa Parmenter meet at Destiny USA’s Canyon looking their best (following the fashion show).
The city is amped-up for the first “big time” ACC game (SU plays North Carolina tomorrow) and the mall was buzzing a Dick Vitale sightings. Great match-ups may just be a cure to the winter blues.
ECG Promotions even staged a fashion show at DestiNY’s Canyon tonight.
Let’s play a big time school every weekend…or find a way to move the mall closer to campus. Wait, isn’t this another reason to re-start OnTrack service?
Blowin in the Wind from the upper deck of the Canyon, DestiNY USA
Great acts are hard to follow, especially a well-loved band like Blowin’ in the Wind. The band played a Concert in the Canyon (DestiNY USA) last week to the delight of hundreds of their fans, shoppers and visitors to the area who poured into the mall. The acoustics weren’t the best, but everyone seemed to have a blast. Highlights of the show included a salute to military personnel and Charity for Children, Inc., a magical Michael Jackson montage (led by Eric Blackwell) and a public performance of the new DestiNY USA theme song.
Blowin’ was also joined for this gig by ultra-talented Dequan Bowens (aka Killer Keys),who we’ve seen jam with many local bands over the past few years.
It’s great to see a hard-working band get some more exposure and build their fan base. We’re not sure who the next schedule group to play the canyon will be, but Blowin’ has set a high standard.
