Former CNY baller Charles Pride (circa 2015) returns to the Dome

For the first game of the Syracuse University Orangemen 2020 campaign, our player to watch will be opposing sophomore guard Charles Pride, who grew up in Syracuse, playing for CBA and later Liverpool High School. Pride scored in double figures in 12 times as a freshman, including a season-high 25 points against Drexel. Another local star Luke Sutherland, a West Genesee grad, is also on the Bulldog squad.

Elective Surg-er-y . . . “If the marketplace doesn’t provide enough competition, why not create a system of internal competition that makes it virtually impossible for anyone to rest on their laurels.” Jim Collins . . . According to the partners of Syracuse Surge, our best chance (as a region) at staying relevant in an ever changing world, is all about building and fueling a robust tech revolution that will create opportunity rich neighborhoods and further connect the city. The questions we have are as follows: Is CNY ready; are we organized; and are the priorities clear. . . . #syracusesurge #sifweekinreview #collaboratecollaboratecollaborate #fromtortisetoharish #growthmindset #bhag #civicinnovation #incaseyoumissedit #internetofthings #secondmachineage #syracuseforsurgers

Bringing It Home at Don’t Bring It Home

A portion of the Blacklites (called the Blacklites Lite) closed out the COVID-19 Awareness Concert series at the Syracuse Community Health Center tonight. The section of the band (left to right: Emmanuel Atkins, Rick Linzy, Ricky Chisholm and Eddie Brown) also played the opening week on August 27. The month-long series was an alternative to the pre-pandemic Jazz in the City shows that typically travel around Syracuse at the end of each summer. This year the music accompanied a testing center located at the Syracuse Community Health Center. Other acts to perform included Ronnie Leigh, Mike Houston & Sam Wynn. The Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation produced the shows.

SIF Media Report . . . During this COVID Era we were fortunate to add two podcasts to our media diet: Questlove Supreme and Eric Krasno’s Plus One. Krasno (pictured right) is a gifted guitarist and live music advocate. It was on his podcast we first heard about the Save Our Stages initiative. The episode we highly recommend is the Nigel Hall conversation, which chronicles their Lettuce history. Here are some photos from a Soulive performance featuring Krasno and Hall (pictured left) at the Westcott Theater back in the day. . . . #saveourstages #brothersinblue #soulive #royalfamily #nigelhall #songaid #lettuceisnotaveggie #lettuceisaband #plusone #localmusicscene #quantinefinds #waybackwednesday #newschoolfunkateers
