Henry Aceto
The Sitrus on the Hill series continues to be a great place for musical experimentation and eclectic groups, all served with light fare from the lounge menu. On Friday The Djangoners brought their sound string strategies to town.
We don’t know who is on the roster to perform next month, but we hope CNY continues to take chances and maybe bring an a cappella group, reggae troupe, or even someone like former Yankee Bernie Williams to fill up this intimate venue.

Spicy: Syracuse guitar legend Marcus Curry got in the mix at the Sitrus Lounge last night with vocalist Ronnie Leigh. They even did a birthday tribute to WAER FM-88’s Eric Cohen. Next month the series will feature a Wil Gorman and Melissa Gardiner reunion.

Delfeayo Marsalis, a man on the move.
Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis danced, played, snapped his fingers, and did all he could to create a second-line/Congo Square-type atmosphere in Syracuse on Saturday night. He was the featured guest for the CNY Jazz Sitrus After Hours program at the Sheraton Hotel. We caught a portion of the show. Here are some of the photos.
Delfeayo plays “We the People” with Larry “The Loot Man” Luttinger on drums.
Marsalis gives some dap to Syracuse piano prodigy Will Gorman (aka Wild Willy) during the jam session.
The Jazz Master: Huffin’ and puffin’ and blowin’ the doors off at the Sitrus Lounge.

Kirsten Tegtmeyer (with E.S.P.) played the Sitrus Lounge on Friday night. It’s hard to believe another season for this jazz series is almost over. The next featured artist will be Nancy Kelly.

Anjela Lynn, ladies first
When it comes to bringing the crowd to the Sitrus Lounge, and making them get off their feet and dance, or in some cases sing, nobody does it like Michael & Anjela Lynn. Their second show for the season at the Sheraton Hotel was a perfect celebration of the roots of smooth R&B and the gift of musical enjoyment on Friday. They were backed up superbly by the next generation, aka the Talented Ones.

Vocalist Cookie Coogan accompanied J.T. Hall for Jazz @ Sitrus on Friday.
Time seems to move faster as spring approaches. It’s hard to believe there are only four more Jazz @ Sitrus shows remaining for the season. The next band to keep the groove in place on the Hill, Michael & Angela Lynn.

SAMMY-Award nominated vocalist Scott Dennis wrapped his dream-like vocals around the Great American Songbook at the Sitrus Lounge last night (University Sheraton). He was backed by the rhythmic triumvirate of Solazzo, Johns and Solazzo.
Their album “Close Your Eyes” was produced by Nancy Kelly.

Jeff Stockam, have horn, will travel
Improvisation is the name of the game in Jazz. We love to see the guest vocalists at the Sitrus Lounge series, but on Friday Jeff Stockham was pulled out of the crowd and joined the jam session.
Samantha Spadafore belts out a tune during Jazz @ Sitrus on Friday night.
