Throwback Thursday: Hip Hop Element #1
Thursday, September 12th, 2013Sibling Revelry
Saturday, September 7th, 2013This is a post about two valley girls…
Ottawa (Ontario, Canada)Valley sisters Erin and Colleen Searson returned to the Syracuse Irish Festival this year, and were last night’s main stage entertainment. Their show delivered one foot-stomping hit after another. Colleen and Erin were accompanied by band mates Danno O’Shea (drums) and Orianna Barbato (bass).
The band will play again during the festival today, then head off for other dates in the Midwest before returning to Ottawa in October.
Check out the interview with Erin and Colleen below, where they talk about their connection with Kitty Hoynes in Syracuse and their gigs in Spain.
The group are true ambassadors for Celtic and fiddle music.
Unplugged
Friday, September 6th, 2013We witnessed a portion of the inaugural Open Mic at LOFO Restaurant last evening, and caught an upbeat, unplugged performance by Johnny and Tim. Below check out a clip of Tim working the strings and Johnny holding down the beat.
Hi 5
Thursday, August 29th, 2013Summer Madness (part 1)
Wednesday, August 21st, 2013What we will miss most about summer is the numerous outdoor music venues. Here is a clip of Will Holton playing Jazz in the City on the Near Westside last week.
Dancing in the Streets
Saturday, August 17th, 2013Here are some photos of dancing during Thursdays Jazz in the City, which was held at one of the stops along the Connective Corridor Route (Westside).
A Tenor Warrior Returns
Friday, August 16th, 2013Will Holton fan Kathy Goodnough had seen the smooth sax player perform at a previous Jazz in the City event and decided to come out to last night’s party. She seemed to enjoy everything from his Grover Washington, Jr. cover, to his audio acrobatics created via the talkbox. Toward the end Holton, who is based in Buffalo, even performed a “saxbox.”
Holton was the featured player along with Grupo Pagan.
The event was held a stone throw from Westside Academy at Blodgett along the Connective Corridor route. Some of the school administrators, busy preparing for the start of the school year, came out to join and enjoy the festivities.
Upside of Downtown
Friday, August 16th, 2013Here are some more photographs from Wednesdays on Walton (WOW). The square was filled with the sounds of zydeco and the flavor of Mardi Gras last week. And true to the spirit of New Orleans, it even brought out strolling musicians such as David Corcoran (see below).

We’re Live
Tuesday, August 13th, 2013This was the first band who played for the 2013 Banding Together benefit for Christine Lafave last night at the Westcott Theater. Shout out to Byron Cage, a former client and well-traveled drummer who is back in the Cuse.
Never Stop
Friday, August 9th, 2013After a weather-related cancellation last week, the Jazz in the City program kicked off today, accompanied by showers. But the Blacklites, veteran showmen of Syracuse music scene, put enough funk back into the atmosphere to stop the rain.
After their first set, the skies broke for a Southside party led by the KC Cuse Line Dance group.
The next Jazz in the City concert is scheduled for Thursday on the Westside.
