Selina Albright and Jackiem Joyner
One of our correspondents, LEM J, captured this photo during Saturday’s Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (Delaware). The festival also included some of the artists who made sweet music in Syracuse this summer, such as Nick Colionne and Gerald Veasley.
We look forward to experiencing the musical synergy of Joyner and Albright at the CNY Jazz Black History Month Cabaret.
Special thanks to Denny Santangini.

Lawrence Czajkowski performed his original composition “Electric Fancy” at the Onondaga County Public Library Masterclass “Finale 2” on Monday. Czajkowski (chy-KAWF-skee ) was the closing act. The event featured nearly 20 artist performances and was held at Le Moyne College. The third finale will be held tonight.
Thanks to Larry Luttinger for inviting us to this event last night. The OCPL Masterclass sounds like a great way to expose emerging and under represented talent. We also found out that the Masterclass is a free program. Check out below, as Larry (Luttinger) introduces another Larry (Czajkowski), and reminds us that CNY is also home to some great composers.
The program will be available via video/audio at ocplmasterclass.com.

We thought we’d share our first glimpse of the Jazz at the Plaza series, coordinated by the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation. The turn out on Wednesday was great, but we hope the Le Moyne College location doesn’t replace the usual Jazz in the City block parties.

Next month Antoinette Montague, in her melodic majesty, will return to Syracuse to play the Black History Month Cabaret for the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation.
For her February 15 show Montague will be accompanied by guitarist Solomon Hicks (aka King Solomon).

Jazz in the City tribute to Donald Ransom (2007)
We look forward to Jazz in the City, which this year will only be one event (vs. three). Past artists who have played for this series include Fred Wesley, Jr. Walker’s All-Stars, Marion Meadows, Dave Valentin, Alex Torres, Jackiem Joyner and Richard Randolph’s Urban Jazz Coalition.
Perseverance Park/Pike Block will be the lone destination on September 3.

Joe Magnarelli
Nancy Kelly
The CNYJAF will produce their annual January JazzFest next week. One of the highlights of the all-day fundraiser will be a melodious collaboration between trumpeter Joe Magnarelli and the first lady of CNY Jazz, Nancy Kelly. For more information about the show, click here. Here a short clip from Nancy Kelly live at the Sitrus Lounge (2012) below.

Jazz Central Holiday Reception
The annual holiday party at Jazz Central continues to be a great after work mixer (and not just to get a taste of Judy Murphy’s meatballs).
The intimate theater provides a great opportunity to catch up with all those folks you’ve seen through the year at jazz shows sponsored by the CNYJAF (from Sitrus, Jazz in the City and the Cabaret series as well as the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival).
A few years ago, despite a snow storm, we caught an impromptu piano performance by Cookie Coogan, Chris Jones and Jeff Stockham. Last night the mood was just as festive with Dave Solazzo providing the musical ambiance.
Jazz Patrons: Assemblyman Sam Roberts, Lanessa Owens and Mike Atkins attended the party.
