Carlos Delgado, playing in 2004 with the Syracuse Chiefs.
Plenty of socially conscious athletes have come through the Salt City (from Jim Brown and Oren Lyons to Melo), but one we often overlook is deserved MLB Hall of Famer Carlos Delgado, whose protest came that season he came to do a rehab stint with the Chiefs.

Chiefs shortstop Adrian Sanchez
A few things we noticed during today’s Syracuse Chiefs matinee contest vs. The Gwinnett Braves: the crowd was great for a noon time start, Adrian Sanchez made a fashion statement with his compression undershirt, and lastly that there’s no way that the umpires should have missed the call during the six inning when they mis-ID’d Mel Rojas Jr’s foul ball as a home run (we had a vantage point near right field). Fans often give umps a hard time at NBT Bank Stadium, but this wasn’t even close. The Chiefs ended up losing the game 3-2.
Sanchez went 1-for-4 in today’s game, including a single during the 9th inning rally.
