We read a story this week that County Executive Joanie Mahoney is being talked about as a candidate for Lt. Governor for New York. She is pictured her from almost 10 years ago during a candidate forum held at the Galleries on South Salina Street.
Journalist Farah Jadran models the new chic during last night’s Syracuse Style show in Armory Square.
Syracuse Fashion Week came to a climax last night along a runway on Walton Street. The increasingly popular Syracuse Style event drew hundreds (and more if you counted those watching from local pubs and restaurants) downtown to check out the latest in what to wear. CNY Central’s Michael Benny returned as the host, but this year worked with TK99’s Lisa Chelenza. Techno background beats were provided by Tom P of Pax Effex.
This year’s event benefited the Landmark Theater.
We also found out about an event called Syracuse Fashion Weekend, ask which will take place Friday, October 11, 2013 at the OnCenter.
Farah Jadran glides along the runway in active wear by Syracuse newcomer Lululemon.
PRPACs Ryan Johnson-Travis and the Connective Corridor’s Linda Dickerson Hartsock take a break from their booths during Urban Cinematheque at the Everson Plaza on Friday night. This year were fortunate to meet and interview these two guiding lights in our city.
Marilyn Higgins, VP of Community Engagement and Economic Development for Syracuse University
Marilyn Higgins, along with Linda Dickerson Hartsock and Maarten Jacobs, spoke last week about how the University has used innovative design, neighborhood dialogue and unlikely coalitions (creative placemaking) to promote a climate of innovation in Syracuse. The event was held in the City Hall Commons Atrium. Higgins discussed how the new narratives of the Near Westside Initiative and Connective Corridor have ignited confidence in how the city views itself.
Here’s an interesting question overheard along the Connective Corridor: If downtown traffic congestion at rush hour for the past few months has been moderate to severe (690 on ramp construction), what would it look like if they tore down Route I81?
