Throwback Thursday: Memoir
Thursday, May 19th, 2016Syracuse Architectural Digest: Re-Thinking Blight
Tuesday, May 17th, 2016We finally got a look at the Syracuse Land Bank’s portfolio of available residential and commercial properties. We wonder how soon they will coordinate with a company to do actual vacant house tours. In Pittsburgh this is something they are actually doing now.

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016Two members of Clarion Associates (Denver, CO) gave a brief overview of the Rezone Syracuse project last night. The group is attempting to help the city better define its character and sense of place as it relates to land use and future development.
According to initial assessment, Syracuse is “behind the curve” and we need to create more user-friendly ordinances. Our current system even has obsolete districts.
We were surprised to find out that modernization is a long time coming (there’s not been a comprehensive update since the 1920s).
And of course there is also potential for consolidation of some districts.
Clarion began their work in the Fall of 2015 and will submit their final recommendations in 2017.
Hopefully this project can help bring some creativity to city planning.

Monday, May 9th, 2016Week in Review: Wish List
Saturday, May 7th, 2016Recently at Ideas City Detroit, the collected experts talked about using arts to leverage culture. A few days ago, Ty Marshal talked about recognizing arts organizations as burgeoning and relevant business institutions. In both cases, we are seeing that the lines between business and art will continue to blur.
We will add to our most recent list of wishes for a consolidation of Syracuse Fashion Week (Spring) to include events at Syracuse University’s Senior Collection show. The current production by Events in Style is great, but we’d love to see the cutting-edge student designers, and their events, as part of an expansive Metro Fashion Week for all to enjoy.
To our knowledge, the decision and final plan for Consensus CNY is still pending. The myriad of concerns and or benefits of the proposals are numerous. Possibly a small step like this can be a beginning of various entities and constituencies working together.
Maybe, just maybe, fashion can lead the way.
