Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, stopped by the Southwest Community Center yesterday as part of his Upstate listening tour. He also visited area hospitals and walked through the Near West side.

Heastie was elected speaker in February. Today he continues his tour in the North Country.

We first visited South Carolina 30 years ago and the Confederate Flag flew atop the Capitol Dome. We returned recently and the flag was off the Dome, but moved to the front of the Statehouse Grounds.  We heard that soon the Flag will be removed from the grounds completely.
