Last Dance, Jazz in the City (Westside)
Here are some photos of dancing during Thursdays Jazz in the City, which was held at one of the stops along the Connective Corridor Route (Westside).

CNY Jazz Executive Directior Larry Luttinger, Will Holton, Kathy Goodnough and Common Council President Van Robinson at Jazz in the City last night (Oswego Street).
Will Holton fan Kathy Goodnough had seen the smooth sax player perform at a previous Jazz in the City event and decided to come out to last night’s party. She seemed to enjoy everything from his Grover Washington, Jr. cover, to his audio acrobatics created via the talkbox. Toward the end Holton, who is based in Buffalo, even performed a “saxbox.”
Holton was the featured player along with Grupo Pagan.
The event was held a stone throw from Westside Academy at Blodgett along the Connective Corridor route. Some of the school administrators, busy preparing for the start of the school year, came out to join and enjoy the festivities.

First Dance
Here are some more photographs from Wednesdays on Walton (WOW). The square was filled with the sounds of zydeco and the flavor of Mardi Gras last week. And true to the spirit of New Orleans, it even brought out strolling musicians such as David Corcoran (see below).

Alex Boatman, Mike Keller & Goose
This was the first band who played for the 2013 Banding Together benefit for Christine Lafave last night at the Westcott Theater. Shout out to Byron Cage, a former client and well-traveled drummer who is back in the Cuse.

Outside in the Rain: The Blacklites
After a weather-related cancellation last week, the Jazz in the City program kicked off today, accompanied by showers. But the Blacklites, veteran showmen of Syracuse music scene, put enough funk back into the atmosphere to stop the rain.
After their first set, the skies broke for a Southside party led by the KC Cuse Line Dance group.
The Great Carsoni (right) finds a dance partner to follow his groove.
The next Jazz in the City concert is scheduled for Thursday on the Westside.
KC Cuse Line Dance keeps the party going.

Michael Wolff, former music director for the Arsenio Hall show, was part of an All-Star Jam Session to close out the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival on Saturday night.
The Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival ended with die-hard fans dancing beneath their umbrellas Saturday night.
Despite the steady shower, the fans that remained were treated to superb musicianship of and All-Star Super Jam band that included Gerald Veasley, Michael Wolff, Gil Parris, Dave Hanlon, Mark Nanni and more.
The session was recorded by Syracuse-native Tom Emmi, producer of Studio Jams.
Soggy, Stage Left
Bassist Gerald Veasley made his second straight visit to Syracuse for the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival. He applauded the Syracuse audience for not being detered by the weather.
Dave Hanlon added some local flavor to the All-Star Jam Session.

A couple dances during the final set for the band Brownskin on Friday.
Day One for the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival was all about dancing. From the early shows to the finale, and almost everywhere in between (including an impromptu session by some young dancers), bodies just seemed to be in motion.
Some folk from the Syracuse Dance Project, along with some freelancers, occupied the landing of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Clinton Sqaure (between the World Beat and Mardi Gras tents).
Eric Blackwell (right) dances during the Blowin in the Wind set that included an Outkast cover song.
Atlas celebrated it’s 33rd year by turning Clinton Square into on big Jungle Boogie to close out Friday night.

Syracuse smooth jazz saxophonist Al Cutri (second from right) comes from a family of talented musicians. He took time to chill with his relatives after playing a white hot set with his band, Blowin’ in the Wind, on the opening day of the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival (Clinton Square) yesterday.
