Syracuse with a Detroit Accent

Syracuse with a Chicago Accent

We have never seen the United Booty Foundation band, but one thing is for sure, their fans came prepared for the Disco revival at the Landmark Theater tonight.  The band will play in Watertown tomorrow.

Tonight’s event kicked off with Syra-Snarl, a costume-themed fashion show coordinated by Lisa Marie Butler.

Donna Alford and Reggie Seigler led the Donna Alford JaSS band brought some brand new funk to the Sitrus Lounge on Friday night.

Fresh off their headline gig at Jazz in the City, The Donna Alford JaSSBand (featuring the husband/wife team of Reggie Siegler and Donna Alford) came to The Sitrus Lounge Friday and unleashed a brand new funk.  One of the highlights of their set was a Michael Jackson medley, which carefully blended “Rock with You” and “Love Never Felt So Good.”  The MJ set was so smooth we expected to see a hologram appear on stage.

Unfortunately, this was their only appearance at the Sitrus showcase this season.

Das set up what she calls the “College Chat Room” during her visit. The College Chat is an Oprah/Charlie Rose table-type conversation for students. She encouraged students to get and stay out of their comfort zones. She also talked about her “Strait A’s” for college success. To learn more about her program, click here.

Syracuse-native Jimmy Cavallo returned to town to play a two-day set at the Italian Festival.

We got to meet Jimmy Cavallo over the weekend. On stage he plays a mean sax, and has an energetic show with great jokes for someone almost 90. During his Saturday set he talked about appearing in the film Rock, Rock!”

He later told us he was the first white rock musician (with an all white band) to play Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 1956.
