Jazz in the City is another reason to love August here in Syracuse.

This music series literally brings music to the people. Listen below as Urban Jazz Coalition made their return to Syracuse and covered a classic Earth Wind & Fire tune. The were joined at this gig by Elan Trotman.

Eddie Wall Street Brown

Eddie Wall Street Brown and the Blacklites raised the Roof at Kirk Park last night.

There are a whole lot of funky bands in Syracuse who perform at various venues during the summer, but we wonder if any of them have as much fun as The Blacklites. It’s hard to think of Jazz in the City on the Southside, whether at Dunk & Bright, Kirk Park, or any venue in the neighborhood without thinking of the Blacklites.

The group is celebrating over 40 years of musical brotherhood.

How can we forget meeting the Fugees when they came to Syracuse to promote their first album more than 20 years ago. They did an appearance at Cole's Music World. Shout out to Kenny Dees for the introduction.

We met the Fugees when they came to Syracuse to promote their first album more than 20 years ago. They did an appearance at Cole’s Music World for 1490-AM WOLF. Somewhere we have a review of the album. Shout out to Kenny Dees for the introduction back in the day.

Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival: Adjustment Periods

NEJWF 2015

Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival 2015.  Overall it was three days of Syracuse-style fun.

We have to give credit where credit is due.

Larry Luttinger and the Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival staff did a great job this year. Not only did they extend the festival a third day (to add Blues), but also literally weathered a thunderstorm, followed by sticky humidity, one cancelled performance, and another headliner who showed up injured.

But of course, the show must go on.

Overall we heard some great music and saw some memorable performances, including a tribute to Jeff Houston and fantastic Friday dance party with Atlas.

Hopefully, the Jazz in the City series that they produce in August won’t bring so many surprises.

John Mooney

New Orleans guitarist John Mooney was a great addition for the Sunday Blues showcase.
