See if you can recognize the lead voice from this 2011 performance by the Gospel Music Workshop of America (Syracuse section). They performed at the Southside Jazz in the City concert. The guitar licks are courtesy of Gator.

Melissa Gardiner’s name and her band were synonymous with live music in 2015, everywhere from the State Fair, SU, Tokyo Seoul, Sitrus Lounge, Le Moyne Plaza (above), and even the streets of the Near Westside.
If you appreciate the slick and polished R&B from back in the day, you’ll enjoy this 30-year old classic from Syracuse’s unsung duo of Skipworth and Turner. We are diggin’ the vocal range of Phil Turner on this cut.
The Sitrus on the Hill series continues to be a great place for musical experimentation and eclectic groups, all served with light fare from the lounge menu. On Friday The Djangoners brought their sound string strategies to town.
We don’t know who is on the roster to perform next month, but we hope CNY continues to take chances and maybe bring an a cappella group, reggae troupe, or even someone like former Yankee Bernie Williams to fill up this intimate venue.
Vocalist Sherma Andrews will be appearing at the Legendary Lady Singers Cabaret in Syracuse Sunday. She is pictured here at last year’s Northeast Jazz and Wine Festival with Live Space Entertainment Executive Producer Tom Honan.
It’s hard for one person to save or change the genre, but newcomer Raury, from the ATL, makes rap seem fresh again. He is clever and interesting, in the way Andre3000 was when you first saw and heard him. Raury performed at Syracuse as part of his current tour.
