Contreras, PhD, (left) is the first female superindendent of the Syracuse City School District and first woman of color to serve in that position for one of New York States Big Five districts, was given a community leader award by Upstate Medical University today. She is joined here by Dr. Danielle Laraque-Arena. Arena became Upstate's seventh president last month.
