On May 16, the First United Methodist Church in Rome, NY hosted a benefit concert to raise funds for the West African Eye Foundation. The singers and percussionists came from the following churches: St. Mary's Roman Catholic, First Baptist, First United Methodist and St. Paul's Baptist.
The two-hour benefit featured African-American spirituals, a Zulu song, a Nigerian hymn and traditional selections such as "Praise the Lord Our God Forever" and "His Eye is on the Sparrow."
The diverse audience that attended the concert traveled from as far away as Albany and Rochester.
