Syracuse, NY-- For the 2001 edition of our city's celebration of Black Independence Day, or Juneteenth, I decided to focus solely on the parade.  The Juneteenth parade began shortly after 10 a.m. in front of the Dunbar Center on State Street. This year's grand marshal was talk-show host and television producer George Kilpatrick (pictured above). Kilpatrick is credited for bringing the Juneteenth celebration to Syracuse 15 years ago.

These photographs were taken with a Nikon CoolPix 990.
